Making Research on Behavior easier is one of our major goals at Mangold International. That's why we have released a new version of our leading Video Coding and Transcription software suite INTERACT.
INTERACT version 9 comes with a lot of new features and improvements without the need “to learn a new product”! Some of the major improvements are:

• Independent variables can be assigned to data sets to make data selection for analysis quicker and easier. The number of independent variables is virtually unlimited.
• The Contingency Analysis dialog has been reworked completely. A new option allows INTERACT to create new events which represent each single contingency. Thus further analysis and statistics can be done easily based on those new events. Contingency can now be calculated based on onset or offset time or based on the whole duration of a behavioral state.
• A new filter in the Time Line Chart allows removal of events with duration less/equal/greater than time X. Thus data can be easily “cleaned” to perform further specific analysis such as co-occurrence analysis or to create descriptive statistics.
• An additional filter in the Time Line Chart allows trimming data based on a “master code”. This way statistics like “what happened while code X was given” can be achieved with only a few mouse clicks.
• The co-occurrence analysis can now create new events within the data sets the co-occurrences have been found. That's why you can now create full descriptive statistics of the original recorded data including the automatic created events with only a few mouse clicks.
• Integration of video editing based on behavioral coding has been redesigned to work much smoother. Select the events you want to use for video editing, call “Create Video from selected Events” from the main menu and the video editing module will create a new video containing the snippets of all selected events!
• Many more things have been improved “under the surface” which makes working with INTERACT easier than ever before, such as: Optimized coding options, simplified code archive handling, improved charting, improved statistics, optimized multiple video window display …

Last but not least: If you have a version of INTERACT below 8.4 you'll be amazed with the completely new look and feel of the INTERACT V8.4 and above! The program has been designed to be much more streamlined to use and offers a lot more possibilities than versions 8.4. and lower. You should definitely have a look at the new INTERACT release.

Roger Bakeman's and Vicenç Quera's Generalized Sequential Querier (GSEQ) version 5.0 is now available. GSEQ computes a variety of simple and contingency table statistics, including adjusted residuals, Yule's Qs, and odds ratios. Statistics can be computed for various lags, and separately for each session or pooled over sessions, levels of a factor, or both. They also have available a conversion program for using INTERACT data files in GSEQ.

> GSEQ's data modification capabilities are especially useful. To perform time-window sequential analyses use the window command. It lets you define new codes (windows) that are tied to onsets and/or offsets of existing codes. More generally, new codes can be created from existing ones using standard logical operations (and, or, not, etc.).

GSEQ also includes helpful data plotting routines, and procedures for assessing interobserver agreement with event-based and time-based kappas.
