Example: MMI usability test
Aim:
A car manufacturing company wants to test a new multi-functional cockpit voice control system. To create a convenient and realistic test environment they integrate the system prototype into an existing car. Several people have to accomplish a series of tasks. The usability test should verify the system's operability under real driving conditions.
Test phase:
One digital camera is recording the test drivers facial expression. A second camera records the drivers movements and activities. A third camera records the devices. A fourth camera records the traffic situation. During the live session an observer (a psychologist or usability specialist) logs his first impressions about the test driver's behavior using the event logging and analysis system INTERACT with an individual and predefined catalog of criteria (e.g. "workload", "tasks", "gaze" etc.).
Interpretation process:
After the test all four videos (test person's face, movements and activities, device and the traffic situation) can be shown and controlled synchronously from within INTERACT.
The observer(s) now are able to refine their initial coding, watching the collected data in sync. They also want to include physiologic data as a measurement for workload during the different tests. This data integration is easily possible by using the INTERACT add-on module DataView. INTERACT and DataView now allow for the frame accurate analysis of all input streams.
Creating results:
The variety of qualitative and quantitative analysis possibilities offered by INTERACT makes it easy to create reliable results in next to no time. By using the Highlight Movie Creator an additional highlight video of specific test situations can be created automatically, based on the already made codings from within INTERACT.
