License Communication for Mangold Products

Most licensed Mangold products rely on a hardware license key also refferred to as "CodeMeter stick".

This hardware key IS your actual software license, so DO NOT LOOSE the stick, it is worth thousands of dollars license fees!

General information

The license key used by our products is a third party highly encrypted USB key or dongle that double fetures as a flash drive. This USB key IS the actual software license. You can install the software as often as you like, it can only be used if the stick is attached.

The company that manufactuers those sticks is called WIBU Systems.

The actual license communication is handled by their CodeMeter software. Per default this software is included within our software installation package and does not need to be installed separately. The communication with this license key is vital for the functionality of those products. Unfortunately the 'No lilcense found' error sometimes occers allthoug a valid license should be available. On some systems it improves reliablity, if you install their CodeMeter Runtime Kit locally.

What causes a "No License found" error

IMPORTANT: If you run an INTERACT version before version 9.4.0 it is advisable to install the following package, in order to get a more acurate error description, including possible solutions:

  • Download this package www.videoanalysis.net/CodeMeter_Update_420.zip
  • Un-zip the package on your local disc.
  • Copy the contents of this zip file into the "INTERACT" application folder (either to be found on your INTERACT Dongle or within your programm folder - depending on how you start INTERACT).
  • Make sure you have chosen the right folder: There should already be an older "CodeMeter.exe" file inside that folder.
  • Overwrite any existing similar files during the copy process.
  • Delete the CMUserMsgDe.dll if you work on a German system.

Possible causes of a generic "No license found" message are:

USB port

Power supply of the USB port in use is too low or USB port is broken

  • Try a(n other) USB port, preferably at the back of your computer.
  • Update/check your USB drivers.
  • Install the CodeMeter Runtime kit locally on your PC, if none of the issues below apply, this might repair any broken USB drivers and it provides a more stable communication on some systems.

User rights

User rights on USB port level are limited

Try to run the software as an Administrator, if this works, it definitely is a user right issue. If you are not able to find the exact source, please contact WIBU support and call +49-721-93172-15 for details or locate your nearest distributor though www.wibu.de/distributoren.php to contact them in your own time zone.

AccessCounter problems

On some machines there are hidden applications active that might be judged as an attempt to break the copy protection of INTERACT. So if you were able to start INTERACT once after the update, but not a second time, this might be causing the license trouble.

  • To make sure if this is your source of error:
Manually start the CodeMeter.exe from within the INTERACT folder.
  • Also start the CodeMeterCC.exe from this location (a CM icon should appear in the try area).
  • Start INTERACT, leaving the error message open.
  • Click on the CM icon in the tray area to open the CodeMeter Control Center.
  • Switch to the Events tab to see what is happening. If one of the last entries say something about this ACCESS COUNTER, we know what is wrong.
  • Please copy this Event log into an email to us.
In this case, we will need to figure out what application is causing this behavior and we will need to reprogram your license stick:
  • Send us a license request as described in "How to Update my License key" further down in the next topic.

Virus scanner problems

Some virus scanner suddenly start blocking either INTERACT itself or removes the IntLang.dll, which is vital for INTERACT.

Should you discover any virus alert referring to INTERACT or its dll's, please report this to us immediately! Naming Virus scanner, its Version and the exact INTERACT version.
Define exclusions from the scan within the properties of your virus scanner  for IntLang.dll, INTERACT9.exe and any other file that might pop up in your alert, for the time being, until the issue has been solved with the virus application.

Missing dll

The qtmlclient.dll (which should per default be part of the windows installation) or the IntLang.dll is missing.

  • Copy the qtmlclient.dll into the INTERACT folder on stick, to make sure it works on all computers.
  • In case of the IntLang.dll, your virus scanner is probably deleting this file, see above.
  • Check if the 'dot.net frame work 2.0' is installed, if the 'GDIplus.dll' is missing INTERACT won't work.

VISTA/IO Error

CM stick is not recognized in the CodeMeter Control Center software when using VISTA or Windows 7.

If none of the first causes apply and you are using an older version of INTERACT, this error will probably be caused by an io error, when using the latest CM Software.

  • Format the CM stick following the instruction in "Format CM stick" further below.

Fire wall

The local Windows fire wall is blocking the communication port

  • Enter an exception for the "localhost:22350" in the firewall settings.

Invalid license

If you have just installed a newer version of our software on an older stick, the license key information might be outdated and not valid for the currently installed version. This is how you can check the validation:

  • Start the CodeMeter.exe in the INTERACT folder (process will startup in the back ground).
  • Open the CM WebAdmin using this address localhost.
  • Switch to tab Content / Licenses.
  • Check the date for product code 1008 'Up-to-date-protection'.

If this date is in the past, contact our sales team or if you are sure the update was purchased but not yet installed, follow the instructions in "How to Update my License key" further below in the next topic.

How to Update my license key

Create a license request

In order to update your license information on your stick or repair exisiting license information, you will need to send us a 'finger print' files of your stick.

Create license request/finger print *.WibuCmRac file

This file can either be created using the available CodeMeter software on the dongle, following the instructions as described in www.videoanalysis.net/UpdateCodeMeterLicenseInformation.pdf
or by downloading our special CMLicenseUpdate tool (< 2Mb):

  • Download and un-zip this package www.videoanalysis.net/CMLicenseUpdate.zip
  • Insert the stick
  • Start the CMLicenseUpdate.exe within the downloaded folder
  • Click on the 'Create Fingerprint File' button
  • Safe the file in an easy accessible folder
  • Send us the file per email

Import new license file

In return to your license request as described above, you will receive an updated license file in return, which needs to be loaded into your stick.

Update license data from *.WibuCmRau file

You can again use the available CodeMeter software on the dongle, following the instructions about importing the updated license file as described in www.videoanalysis.net/UpdateCodeMeterLicenseInformation.pdf or you can re-use our CMLicenseUpdate tool:

  • Save the *.WibuCmRau file into the same folder as the original fingerprint *.WibuCmRac file
  • Insert the stick
  • Start the CMLicenseUpdate.exe again
  • Click on the 'Import Licence File' button
  • Wait until the update is finished

How to Update the license stick's firmware

Especially older sticks should check their firmware the moment things tend to go wrong.

One major issue solved in the recent firmware is the prevention of less access counter problems and an issue that caused temporary malfunctioning of the stick if it was inserted into the same machine at all times (unplugging the stick would get it back to work).

Install CodeMeter Software

The software needed for license communication is preinstalled within our application folders, but to successfully update your firmware, it is better to install the official CodeMeter software locally into your system. In case you have multiple sticks, you can of course update the firmware of all sticks on one computer.

  • Download the appropriate CodeMeter Runtime kit
  • Install the software locally on your PC, if you have not already done so
CodeMeter ControlCenter

Update firmware

  • Open the CodeMeter Control Center by clicking the CM tray icon  in the lower right corner
  • Make sure the stick is inserted
  • Click on the button on the line “Version: CmStick/ 1…… “,
    (showing the ‘round’ arrow)
  • Wait for the update to finish

Cannot Safely Remove CodeMeter Stick

If you have trouble removing the CodeMeter stick using the Safely remove hardware command,
do NOT plug out the stick just like that!

This might cause severe data loss, because Windows will probably damage the file system, because of the license communication software still running in the background.

Please find the possible causes and solutions below:

Open Windows explorer

As long as there is any window still open, showing some content of you stick, Windows won't release the stick.

  • Make sure you have properly closed all of our applications as well as any Windows explorer windows pointing to the stick content.

Open (Hidden) Application

The CodeMeter.exe is still running in the back ground. The application should end itself as soon as the last product using it has been closed. This is a known issue for all CodeMeter software version 3.20 and earlier 3.30. Make sure you use CodeMeter.exe v 3.30.58.250 dated 17.07.2008 or later!

  • Open the Taskmanager and switch to the tab Processes.
  • Select the CodeMeter.exe and click on the 'End Process' button to kill the application

You should now be able to safely remove your stick.

Check CodeMeter Version

  • Open the application folder of the Mangold software you are running.
  • Right click the CodeMeter.exe
  • Choose File properties from the context menu.
  • Check the version number on the Details tab.

Update CodeMeter software on stick (INTERACT)

  • Update to the latest version of the CodeMeter software by downloading the proper version from www.videoanalysis.net/CodeMeter_MobileSupport.zip and replace the version in your INTERACT folder on each of your sticks.

Install CodeMeter Software locally

If you work on the same PC's most of the time, installing the CodeMeter Runtime kit locally will resolve this issue as a whole. Because after installation, the CodeMeter Software will run on your PC locally in the background and does not need to be closed for safe removal of the stick. You can download the appropriate latest version from the WIBU Systems download page.

My stick shows no content - Format license key

As stated elsewhere, the CodeMeter license key double functions as a flash drive or memory stick. Sometime the Windows file system gets damaged, most often caused by not removing the stick safely.

This is the visible part of the stick for the user, where your files could be stored and in case of our INTERACT software, even the whole application can be run from the stick.

If Windows does no longer recognize the stick, your file system is probably damaged and needs to be reformatted. BEWARE: The regular Windows command is not sufficient in this case!

To retrieve lost data, you could try to repair the file system using the Windows onboard functionality or maybe some third party recovery software.

Repair file system

To retrieve lost data, you could try to repair the file system using maybe some third party recovery software or the Windows onboard functionality:

  • Select the drive representing the Stick in the My computer window
  • Right click > Properties
  • 2. or 3. Tab (Tools/Extras-depending on the Windows version)
  • Start the Error checking routine
  • Check only the "Automatically fix file system errors" option
  • Start the correction and wait until it says it is finished.

After this, usually most of the data is OK again, but not always. Anyhow, after this, we advise you to format the stick and make a fresh installation on it.

Formatting the stick will delete all data from the flash drive, but NOT the license information!

Copy everything readable from your stick to a backup folder on your hard drive, in case there is anything on it you might need later on.

Format CodeMeter Stick

To format the stick properly, use the special CodeMeter software, available here: www.videoanalysis.net/CmConfigDisk.zip

  • Save your data!!!
  • Unzip the CmConfigDisk.zip
  • Start ConfigDisc.exe
  • Choose the tab "Disc configuration"
  • Select "Single disc fixed" from the list
  • Start configuration
  • Confirm the format of the Flash discs
  • Wait until everything is finished (3-4 Minutes)

A detailed instruction can be found in this PDF.

  • Install your software again on the stick, in case you are using INTERACT.
