Pascal Mangold — Pioneer of Digital Observational Research Since 1991
The Origin in 1991: A Symbiosis of Computer Science and Clinical Research
In an era of limited processing power and scarce storage capacity, Pascal Mangold broke genuinely new ground in the early 1990s. At the request of the renowned researcher Prof. Dr. Mechthild Papoušek (Kinderzentrum München), Pascal Mangold developed the software INTERACT — for the first time making audio and video data reliably usable for scientific analysis on the PC. This technological expertise grew into decades of publishing and teaching activity. In 1997, together with Prof. Dr. Hanuš Papoušek (research partner and husband of Mechthild Papoušek), he delivered a documented lecture on video-based behavioral observation in clinical practice, therapy evaluation, and research at the German Academy for Developmental Rehabilitation in Munich. In 2000 he published his first scientific work with Springer, "Software-Assisted Behavioral Observation in Clinical Practice and Research." In parallel, his standard reference "IT Project Management Compact" (Spektrum Akademischer Verlag) earned him international recognition as a specialist author — 5-star rated and, for years, among Amazon's Top 10 IT titles. To scale this pioneering work globally, Mangold International GmbH was founded in 2002 and has since established itself as the world market leader in its segment.

Alongside his role as managing director, Pascal Mangold looks back on more than three decades of international teaching and research. With over 50 lectures and workshops in more than 15 countries, he has substantially shaped the methodological development of behavioral research across four continents.

Between 2006 and 2017, Pascal Mangold delivered more than 20 seminars, workshops, and lectures at universities and research centers in Taiwan, China, and Malaysia — from National Taiwan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University to Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka. The focus was on methods of scientific behavioral observation, eye tracking, human factors, and multimodal data analysis.
